Text | Irvin Rumsey, a highly respected farmer of a few miles northwest of town, passed away Saturday, April 5, 1941, at the Axtell hospital, aged almost 53 years, having suffered a relapse after being seriously ill with the flu. Deceased was born April 8, 1888, at Almena, Kansas, the son of O. E. and Sarah Ann Rumsey. The family moved to Hopkins, Mo., where Irvin spent his childhood, later moving back to Almena where he grew to young manhood, and where on March 9, 1913, he was married to Miss Mary Cornelia Williams. To this union were born three children, Oliver Edward, Myrna Kathryn and Ferryl Arlene, Myrna passing away at the age of two years and four months. In 1934 the family moved to near Frankfort, Kansas, where they farmed for two years, moving to St. Joseph, Mo., and in 1938 came to Axtell to their present home. There are left to mourn his passing the sorrowing widow, the son, Oliver and his wife, Edith, and a daughter, Miss Ferryl, all of the home, one sister, Mrs. Lillian Shirley, Axtell, and one brother, C.P. Rumsey, of Almena. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, at the Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. H. T. Vigour; a quartet, Mrs. S. V. Hanna, Mrs. Elmer Hendricks, Mrs. Lyle Caldwell and Mrs. O. C. Temple, sang "Looking This Way," "Going Down the Valley" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," with Mrs. Rubie Erickson, accompanist. The pall bearers were Wm. Berry, Geo. Sharpe, Roy Christy, E. W. Bergmann, O. C. Temple and Clarence Stueve. Tuesday the remains were taken to Beaver City, Neb., by Theron Smith for interment. The Standard joins the many friends of the bereaved family in extending sympathy in their sorrow. | |
