Augustine Moore Bret, I see on your Rumsey Family Pages you list Colonel Augustine Moore (d.1743) as born Chelsea, Barnborough, Yorkshire, and I thought you might be interested in the following: Chelsea is in London, and Barnborough is in Yorkshire. There is, in fact, no connection between Col Augustine Moore of 'Chelsea', Virginia, and an Augustine More (with one 'o') of the Barnborough line of 'Mores' (descendants of Sir Thomas More). This latter Augustine More was born in 1676 and died in England in 1719. He was a woollen draper, lived in Whitechapel, London, and had two children. Col. Augustine Moore is said to have been born in 1685 and to have died in 1743. His ancestry in England has never been establised. The claim of descent from Sir Thomas More was shown by genealogists in the early 1900s (work published in the William and Mary Quarterly in 1907) to be based on forged documents.
