Bronson: Shirley Sue Cochensparger, 63, 120 W. Corey St., died Jan. 4, 1993, at the home of her daughter where she had been staying during her illness. She was born July 20, 1929, in Coldwater, a daughter of Mervin and Gladys (Paul) Donnell. On Dec. 22, 1982,she married Dale Cochensparger in Honolulu, Hawaii. He died in February 1992.
She was raised in Bronson, moving to Sturgis in 1948, to Wayne in 1951, and returning to Bronson in 1982. She was employed two years at Douglas Manufacturing Company, Bronson; and she also worked at the Kirsch Company and Michigan Bell, both in Sturgis; several years at the Trilex coroporation Canton Center, and as a receptionist at Annapolis Hospital, Wayne, where she began her work in public relations by writing the hospital paper, "Heart Beat" for nine and one half years. She also wrote columns for the Wayne Eagle, Westland Observer and freelanced for the Coldwater Reporter, the Sturgis Jounal and the Battle Creek Enquirer. At one time, she wrote columns for 19 newspapers. She was a member of the Branch County 4-H Veterans of Foreign wars Auxiliary; the American Legion Auxiliary; the Branch County Historical Society; the Branch County Genealogical Society; the American Association of Retired persons; the September Days Club; a charter member of the Annapolis Hospital Auxiliary, Wayne; and a member and senior regent of the Wayne Moose. She had transferred her Moose membership to Sturgis. She also was a member of the Friends of the Library, Bronson; and she did public relations work for the Bronson Alumni Association.
Surviving are her daughters, Mrs. Frank (Sharon) Updike [sic] and Dawn Norris, both of Westland, Miss Katherine Kay Slack, Wixom, Dale Dee Morrow, Wayne and Mrs. Scott (Kelly Kaye) Underwood, Walled Lake; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and four sisters, Patricia Hall, Mongo, Ind., Rolene Rohrer, Athens, Dixie Rice, Bronson, and Bonnie Yoder, Sturgis.
There will be no visitation. Graveside services are at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Bronson Cemetery with the Rev. Phil Lindner officiating. Arrangements were handled by the Kolcz Funeral Home, Bronson.
