  Notes	Laurence was the first known resident of Ash Rock Township to die in an auto accident. At the age of 25, he was involved in an collision in Woodston. He ws teh son of William G and Anna Bates Thomas and brother to Clifford, Elsie Thomas Hull and Lillian Thomas Meyer. He was married to Sylvia Koontz on Sept 5, 1918. He had been to Denver, searching for employment for the winter months and was planning to move there for the season. He was driving his Buick Roadster when he was struck broadside by a Packard driven by Roy Bonebrake. The Buick rolled over and Laurence was pinned underneath, he suffered interal injuries and was taken to the hospital in Corcordia by train where he died the next morning. He left his pregnant wife, Sylvia, who gave birth to a daughter, Christine on March 23, 1923 who was stillborn. Sylvia died six years at the age to 31. It was reported she died of a "broken heart".
