  Notes	William and his family immigrated to America sometime between 1819 and 1830. In 1833, William Skillen is listed in the New York City Directory, working as a tailor at 55 Crosby (very near his sons Hance and James). He continued to operate out of that location until 1837. William was 60-70 years old in the 1840 Census of the New York City 6th Ward. Living with him were 2 females, one 15-20 (possibly his youngest daughter Mary) and another 40-50, which may have been his wife. (Research):There is an obituary published in the New York Spectator, dated 18 Nov 1843, for a William Skillin. It reads Died. On Wednesday morning, 15th inst. WILLIAM SKILLIN, aged 81 years. While this is not a perfect fit with the existing dates, it is close. In the 1840 New York City Directory, a Samuel Skillin is found occupying 13 Doyers and working as a tailor. It is unknown how this Samuel Skillin is related to the family. [1]
