  Notes	Vernon reached the rank of First Lieutenant in the Air Force as part of the 30th Photo Squadron, 67th Tactical Reconnaissance Group. He piloted a P-38 Lightning during WW II and was killed when his plane crashed during takeoff on 21 January 1945. He was the escort of 2nd Lieutenant Frank V. Savino as they left on a photo reconnaissance mission. [4]
