- BROWN
Lewis Brown, son of Carl and Margaret Brown, was born January 21, 1856 in Washington County, Ohio; and died in the hospital at Quinter, Kansas, on March 9, 1943 at the age of 87 years, one month and 16 days.
He was confirmed in the Lutheran church at the place of his birth on April 15, 1870.
As a young man he came to Kansas marking his home in and around Russell and meeting all the rigors of early pioneer life there.
On September 20, 1883 he was united in marriage to Margaret E. McConnell to which union four children were born. His wife died in 1896 when their youngest child was but a few months old and he became father and mother to his children raising them to manhood and womanhood.
In 1911 the family moved to the Collyer Community where he has since resided.
He married Mary A. Pattimore December 22, 1920, but when they had been married only nine years, she too was taken in death. The remaining years of his life were spent with his children.
He leaves to mourn his passing his four children: Edgar Brown of WaKeeney; Mrs. Clarence Tilton of Sharon Springs; Mrs. Wm. Palkowksy and Mrs. Chas. Razak of Collyer; one sister, Miss Kate Brown of Wheeling, West Virginia; 17 grandchildren; six great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted in Collyer at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Methodist church with Reverend Trimble officiating. Burial was in the Russell cemetery.
