- BURLEY - Ron L. Veneman, age 67, of Burley, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009, at the University of Utah Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Ron was born in Burley, Idaho, on Feb. 17, 1942, to Elmer Tilman and Sybil Joyce (Hosmer) Veneman. He was raised in the Paul and Burley area. where he received his education. He married Ellie Spitz on Aug. 1, 1960. Together, they had two children, Scott and Valrie.
Ron was an excellent husband and father and taught his children the value of hard work. He was a wonderful provider and enjoyed his profession driving truck throughout his life. He retired from Ag Express in July of 2007.
Everyone who knew Ron was well acquainted with his passion for buying and trading pickups, guns and RVs. He loved being able to "dicker" with the sales force who worked with him. Additionally, Ron enjoyed reloading and shooting guns. However, he was happiest when he was in the mountains hunting, fishing, horseback riding, camping or riding his four-wheelers.
Ron was a very proud man and was a fighter to the end. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Ellie Veneman of Burley; his children, Scott (Kellie) Veneman of Alamosa, Colo., and Valrie Praegitzer (Daryl Scott) of Burley; his grandchildren, Ryan and Casey Veneman, and Andrew and Kylee Praegitzer; and his siblings, Roy (Dani) Veneman of Fresno, Calif., Judy Osborne and Bob Veneman, both of Oakley, and Lynn (Sharon) Veneman of Burley.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his father and mother-in-law, Erwin and Goldie Spitz; a sister-in-law, Elaine Olsen; three brothers-in-law, Bud and Boyd Spitz and Rusty Olsen; and a nephew, Tony Veneman.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, at the Zion Lutheran Church, 2410 Miller Ave., with the Rev. David L. Poovey officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St. in Burley.
