1722 | Roy's mother passed away when he was only three months old, at which time he lived with his grandmother Hellen Paynter and his aunt Martha Paynter until he was about 4 years old and his father married Anna Kate Thomas. Roy gew to manhood in the Alton community and was a successful farmer and wheat grower at his farm north of Alton. In 1948 he and his wife retired from farming and moved to Boring, Oregon, near Portland, where they have their home. After moving to Oregon, he worked at the Gresham cannery as a maintenance man during the summer for two years and drove a school bus for the Orient school district for three years. Goshen. He signed Articles of Association in 1775 at Cornwall, embracing the district of Cornwall, Blooming Grove and Monroe. Samuel Smith of Monroe, Orange Co., wrote his will 1 Mar 1830 with a codicil 15 May 1835, which were probated 19 Sep 1836. He gave $1.00 to his grandson David Smith, son of dec'd son David, and all personal property to his 3 daughters: Elinor Halbert, Hannah C. Mickins and Ann Hunter, and his granddaughter Martha Mickens. Part of his homestead farm he gave to his 2 sons: James Smith and Jesse Smith, and 2 grandsons Samuel Smith and William Smith. The remainder of his homestead farm he gave to this son Moses Smith, and "I hereby recognize the children he had by his former wife Patty as well as those he has by the last wife Jane as heirs."
